Jets Are Not Shopping S Marcus Maye In Trade Talks

Update:

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, reports that the Jets are not shopping S Marcus Maye, despite the earlier report.

“Beyond fake news,” one source tells Florio.

Florio explains that other teams have expressed trade interest in Maye and at least one team is currently interested in acquiring him. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean New York is shopping him around the league in trade talks.

According to Manish Mehta, the Jets have had trade discussions involving S Marcus Maye.

Mehta adds Jets HC Adam Gase wanted to trade Maye when he first got the job last year before being talked out of it. New York also fielded trade calls for Maye at the deadline last year.

Maye was projected as a starter for New York before the Jets selected S Ashtyn Davis in the third round of the draft a couple of weeks ago.

Given Maye has struggled at times to stay healthy and the Jets already might be paying S Jamal Adams a hefty sum, it’s possible Maye might not factor into the team’s long-term plans.

Maye, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Jets back in 2017. He’s entering in the final year of his four-year, $6.554 million contract that included $4.134 million guaranteed.

In 2019, Maye appeared in all 16 games for the Jets and recorded 64 tackles, one interception and seven pass defenses. He was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 17 safety out of 87 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding the Jets as the news is available.
