Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net reports that sources close to the Jets have mentioned that New York is “unlikely to pull the trigger” on Alabama DE/OLB Courtney Upshaw at this point.
Pauline concedes that it’s still possibility, but those close to the team believe that they’ll “target a pass rushing linebacker in the later (5th) rounds.”
If this ends up being the case, the Jets could look to add a wide receiver or possibly an offensive lineman at #16 overall. It’s worth noting that this is time of year when lying runs rampant, so this could a diversion technique by the Jets.
We actually have them taking Upshaw in the first-round of our 2012 NFL Mock Draft, but that could be changed later in the week.
