According to Brian Costello, the Jets have signed LB James Burgess to their practice squad and released OL Ben Braden in a corresponding move.
New York’s practice squad now consists of:
- OL Calvin Anderson
- LB James Burgess
- CB Kyron Brown
- QB Luke Falk
- LB Jamey Mosley
- WR Jeff Smith
- RB Valentine Holmes (International)
- RB Josh Adams
- TE Ian Bunting
- WR/KR Greg Dortch
- WR Josh Malone
Burgess, 25, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Louisville back in 2016. He was, unfortunately, among Miami’s final roster cuts but was later signed to the team’s practice squad.
After brief stints with the Chargers, Ravens and Jaguars, Burgess signed on to the Browns’ practice squad during the 2016 season. Cleveland brought him back on a futures contract the following year before waiving him from injured reserve with a settlement in October.
The Dolphins signed Burgess to a futures contract this past January only to cut him loose in May. Burgess caught on with the Jets and was cut loose after the preseason.
The Saints brought him in for a workout last week, but he left New Orleans without a contract.
In 2018, Burgess appeared in three games and recorded eight tackles and no sacks or interceptions.
