Jets Trying Out Kickers Cody Parkey & Younghoe Koo

According to Manish Mehta, the Jets tried out kickers Cody Parkey and Younghoe Koo on Saturday. 

The Jets currently have Taylor Bertolet as their starting kicker, but he missed three field goals in the team’s final preseason game. 

Parkey, 27, originally signed on with the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn back in May of 2014. However, he was traded to the Eagles after a few months in exchange for RB David Fluellen.

Parkey lasted two years in Philadelphia before being waived and later signed with the Browns as a free agent. Cleveland elected cut Parkey loose in 2017 as they trimmed their roster down to the 53-man limit and he was claimed off of waivers by the Dolphins.

The Bears elected to sign Parkey to a four-year, $15 million contract that includes $9 million guaranteed last year. He was set to make base salaries of $2.75 million and $2.625 million over the next two years of the agreement.

Chicago designated Parkey as a post-June 1 cut this offseason following his infamous missed field goal in the 2018 playoffs. 

In 2018, Parkey appeared in all 16 games for the Bears and made 23 of 30 field goal attempts (76.7 percent) and was 42-45 on extra points.

Koo, 24, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Southern back in 2017. He was set to make a base salary of $465,000 for the 2017 season when the Chargers waived him a few weeks into the season.

In 2017, Koo appeared in four games for the Chargers and converted just three of six field goal attempts and all nine extra point tries.
