Jets Won’t Sign Plaxico Burress Because He’s Bad For Mark Sanchez’s Development

The New York Daily News reports that the Jets’ decision to not re-sign WR Plaxico Burress has to due with their belief that he is not good for Mark Sanchez‘s development.

“We’re trying to look for guys maybe a little bit younger and (that have) a little more speed,” added head coach Rex Ryan.

Given the Jets recent rash of injuries and their limited depth at receiver, it seems like they would consider signing anyone that could help them this season. I get that looking for young talent at skill positions is the right move for the team in the long-run, but their offense is in such bad shape right now that it would seem reasonable for them sign someone who is going to be able to step in and Sanchez and the Jets offense produce.

The Jets elected to sign Jason Hill yesterday, so they’ll try to get him up to speed in the coming days.
