Jimmy Smith Had Groin Surgery Thursday

The Ravens secondary suffered another blow today as cornerback Jimmy Smith had surgery Thursday morning on his injured groin, per Ryan Mink of BaltimoreRavens.com.

“You don’t expect all this to happen, but it’s football,” defensive coordinator Dean Pees said, via Mink. “It’s professional football. Some years you go through and you’re unscathed. Some years you go through and it’s not. But you have to make do with what you got.”

Smith is expected to be back before the season ends, but his presence will be missed as he had stepped in as Lardarius Webb‘s replacement when he was lost for the season with an ACL tear. Cary Williams will now serve as the Ravens No.1 cornerback with Corey Graham and Chykie Brown taking on larger roles on defense.
