Lamar Miller Leading Dolphins RB Competition Over Knowshon Moreno

According to ESPN’s James Walker, Dolphins RB Lamar Miller continues to work with the first-team offense for the third straight week and has been making more plays than free agent acquisition Knowshon Moreno.

Walker adds that it appears as though Moreno is out of shape, which coincides with what we heard last week.

Dolphins HC Joe Philbin sounded very optimistic that Miller could be in for a big third year.

“He’s had a very good camp. …This is the time as a third-year player that you’re ready to make a big contribution,” Philbin said of Miller.

Moreno, 26, is coming off of an impressive 2013 season with the Broncos, but even with a solid performance last year, he found a limited amount of interest on the open market.

Miami eventually signed him to a one-year, $3 million contract that included just $1.25 million guaranteed, so it’s not as though they would have a hard time benching him if others are outplaying him.

There is still time for him to turn things around in offseason workouts and in training camp, but it would probably help if he could get in better shape.
