Ndamukong Suh Says Agent Will Decide Where He Plays Next Year

Lions DT Ndamukong Suh told reporters during his weekly news conference that his agent Jimmy Sexton will ultimately make the decision of what team the impending free agent will suit up for.

It’ll be Jimmy’s decision.  So we’ll go with that.  You can call Jimmy if you want to” Suh told reporters, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Suh even went on to further clarify, responding to a question of whether Jimmy will actually pick the team with “Probably Will.  Yup.”

It is likely that Suh was having some fun with the media, overstating his reliance on his agent.  What is noteworthy however, is his transparency into the process, openly stating that his agent will have a very prominent role in deciding his destination next year.

It’s difficult to say whether this means a hometown discount for the Lions is out of the question, but it appears certain that there will be a significant bidding war.

Suh’s rookie contract will void five days after the Super Bowl, making him a free agent.

Sexton will certainly look at DT Gerald McCoy‘s deal with the Buccaneers for reference.  McCoy signed a six-year $95.2 million deal, with $51.5 million guaranteed.

Pro Football Focus ranks Suh as the No.2 defensive tackle this season, only behind rookie Aaron Donald, and one spot above Gerald McCoy.

Accordingly, Suh can make a case to maybe even surpass McCoy‘s deal.  In fact, Joel Corry of the National Football Post believes the deference to his agent increases the likelihood that Suh will become the highest paid non-quarterback in the league.

Whether that comes from the Lions remains to be seen, though it could hinge to some degree on how they value fellow impending free agent DT Nick Fairley.

We have Suh ranked No.1 on our Top 25-2015 NFL Free Agents List.
