The Detroit Lions have signed veteran S Taylor Mays, per Michael Rothstein of ESPN.
The addition comes four days after his release from the Minnesota Vikings, where he signed just three months prior.
Mays, 27, is a former second-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He was later traded to the Bengals for an undisclosed draft pick just a year later, and spent four seasons with the franchise, largely participating with the special teams unit.
With Detroit, Mays will compete for a backup safety role or latch on once again with the special teams.
In 2014, Mays appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals and recorded nine tackles, a sack, and a safety. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing just 61 snaps last year.
