Lions Tried Out Six Players

According to Howard Balzer, the Lions brought in six free agents for workouts on Friday and Saturday.

The full list of tryouts includes:

  1. LB Nicholas Grigsby
  2. WR Tavarres King
  3. WR Max McCaffrey
  4. WR Kalif Raymond
  5. QB Nathan Peterman
  6. WR Terrelle Pryor

Of this group, the Lions signed Grigsby to their practice squad on Saturday.

McCaffrey, 24, wound up signing on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Duke back in May of 2016. He signed a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Raiders before he was unfortunately among their roster cuts coming out of the preseason.

McCaffrey had brief stints with the Packers, Saints and Jaguars before returning to Green Bay last October and signing on to their practice squad. The 49ers would later sign him to their active roster and he finished out the year in San Francisco.

Unfortunately, the 49ers waived McCaffrey with an injury designation and he later reverted to their injured reserve list before he was cut loose soon after.

In 2017, McCaffrey appeared in five games and caught one pass for four years and no touchdowns.

King, 28, is a former fifth-round pick of the Broncos back in 2013. He lasted less than a year in Denver before he was claimed off of waivers by the Panthers.

After brief stints with the Jaguars and Buccaneers, the Giants signed him to their practice squad during the 2015 season and he spent the past few years in New York.

The Vikings signed him to a contract King to a contract in April, but waived him with an injury designation and he later reverted to injured reserve. Minnesota waived him from I.R. last month.

In 2017, King appeared in eight games for the Giants and caught 18 passes for 240 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
