Lions Worked Out 3 Kickers Including Garrett Hartley & Billy Cundiff

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Lions brought in three kickers for workouts in recent days including Kyle Brindza, Billy Cundiff and Garrett Hartley.

  • According to Rapoport, it sounds like Lions K Matt Prater had a cold, which explains why they brought in kickers for workouts.
  • However, Rapoport adds that Prater should be good to go for tonight’s game.

Hartley, 28, had spent five seasons with the Saints before he was released in December of last year. The Browns signed him to a contract at the end of the 2014 season, but elected to release him shortly after the draft.

The Steelers wound up signing him to a contract after K Shaun Suisham sustained a season-ending knee injury back in August. However, he was later placed on season-ending injured reserve before being released with a settlement over a month ago.

Last year, Hartley appeared in two games and converted all three of his field goal attempts and his two extra point tries.

Cundiff, 35, signed on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Drake back in 2005. Since then Cundiff has played for several teams including the Buccaneers, Packers, Saints, Falcons, Chiefs, Lions, Ravens, Redskins, 49ers, Jets and most recently for the Browns.

The Bills signed him to a contract for their Week 5 game, but he was released shortly after.

In 2014, Cundiff converted 22 of 29 field goal attempts this season, but was just one of three from 50 yards or more.
