Mike McCarthy Already Drawing Interest For HC Jobs

According to Adam Schefter, former Packers HC Mike McCarthy is already receiving overtures from NFL teams considering head coaching changes.

However, Schefter says it remains to be seen whether McCarthy will immediately return to coaching for the 2019 season, given that he still has a year remaining on his contract with the Packers.

McCarthy could elect to wait for the right for him and possibly take a year off before exploring the job market a year from now.

Sources have told Schefter that McCarthy is expected to draw interest from his former colleagues John Dorsey, Alonzo Highsmith and Eliot Wolf, who are now in charge of the Browns.

Schefter adds that some Packers assistant coaches thought last year that McCarthy might land in Arizona with the Cardinals’ vacant job.

Recent reports have said that the Jets have McCarthy “very high” on their list of candidates, so it would not be surprising if he was one of the top coaching candidates.

McCarthy, 55, began his NFL coaching career with the Chiefs back in 1993 as an offensive quality control coordinator. He bounced around with the Packers, Saints and 49ers before the Packers hired him as their head coach in 2006.

The Packers made the decision to move on from McCarthy following their disappointing loss to the Cardinals.

During his 13-year tenure in Green Bay, McCarthy has led the Packers to a record of 125-77-2 (61.8 percent), which includes nine playoff appearances and a Super Bowl title in 2010.

We’ll have more regarding McCarthy as the news is available.
