Update:
Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport are reporting that Kellen Moore is “leaning toward” staying on as Mike McCarthy’s offensive coordinator.
Garafolo says that Dallas is “pushing hard” to retain Moore and while there has been no final decision, the expectation is that he’ll remain with the Cowboys.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports new Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy would like Kellen Moore to stay on at the team’s offensive coordinator.
However, Rapoport says that Moore also has an opportunity to go back home and become the offensive coordinator at the University of Washington under Jimmy Lake.
Moore is reportedly mulling over his options right now.
Recent reports had said that Jerry Jones wanted to keep a few offensive coaches, who are under contract for the 2020 season including Moore. However, it sounds like Moore is at least considering the possibility of moving on.
To Moore’s credit, the Cowboys’ offense ranked well in his first year as coordinator.
Moore, 30, originally signed on with the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State back in 2012. Detroit elected to move on from Moore at the start of the 2015 season and later signed on to the Cowboys’ practice squad.
Moore missed the entire 2016 season with a broken ankle but he returned to Dallas last March. After being waived in 2017, the Cowboys added him to their practice squad for the remainder of the season.
Moore made the decision to join the Cowboys as their QBs coach and end his playing career in 2018. Dallas later promoted him to offensive coordinator for the 2019 season.
In 2019, the Cowboys’ offense ranked No. 1 in total yards, No. 6 in points scored, No. 5 in rushing yards and No. 2 in passing yards.
