More Talk About Ryan Tannehill Starting For The Dolphins

ESPN’s Adam Schefter (Insider) writes that it “would be an upset” if  first-round pick Ryan Tannehill wasn’t starting for the Miami Dolphins at some point during the upcoming season.

Schefter adds that “Miami likes Tannehill too much and he knows too much of the Dolphins offense” to not play him this season. It’s clear that Tannehill will have a shot to earn the starting job outright, but he’ll obviously have to beat out veteran’s Matt Moore and David Garrard for the position.

I can’t imagine the Dolphins sitting him for any more than a few games. Drafting a top-10 quarterback is a pretty good indication that this is the direction that the team is planning on heading in, so unless he puts together a very poor training camp, they should probably throw him in there to begin the year anyways. After all, Andy Dalton did pretty well with only a few weeks to prepare for his rookie season, so it’s fair to assume that Tannehill could be ready to start by week one.

  1. True but the Jaguars did the same with Blaine Gabbert, and now they are saying Henne might beat him out cause Gabbert is still reeling from last year’s play….as a Dolphin fan I would prefer Moore starts at least 10 games, then play Tannehill the last 6 or so….Ryan is still an unpolished QB…..

    • That’s certainly a fair point about Gabbert. I like Matt Moore and what he was able to do for them last year, but it’s hard to imagine them competing for the AFC East next season. Maybe you start Moore for a few games, but you have to see what Tannehill can do at some point, especially because there are mixed opinions as to whether or not he can be a starting QB in the league.

      • I agree Miami has to play him at some point, just hope its later on the season…and also agree Miami is not ready to compete yet but team has a great foundation…o-line and d-line is solid…
