NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Cowboys

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he’s been impressed by DE Randy Gregory‘s work ethic since returning to the team from an indefinite suspension.

“I just know that his attitude, his want to, his genuineness, those are things that I’ve heard players talk about but I would say it’s mirrored all the way through and up through the organization,” Jones said, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Everybody here is rooting for him, he doesn’t want any slack but I know he sees the care that everybody has for him. I did notice some of his trademark skill out there on a couple of snaps that he took out there today. You could see that [sleekness] He’s just got the ability to create some pressure.

  • Clarence Hill mentions that free agent acquisition Kony Ealy has not impressed at defensive end and the Cowboys plan to give him a longer look at defensive tackle in practice.

Eagles

New Eagles QB Christian Hackenberg told reporters on Monday that it’s going to be tough to make the team, but he plans to give it “everything [he] has.

“It’s my opportunity, whenever that comes, whatever this is,” Hackenberg said, via NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I assume they signed me for a reason, so I’m just going to come in and give it everything I have in terms of picking it up and trying to push myself and learning as much as I am mentally and taking that on and also making sure I stay up on everything physically. It’s going to be tough, but again it’s a challenge that I’m excited for. It’s better than sitting on the couch.”

  • Eliot Shorr-Parks writes that the Eagles could consider trading CB Ronald Darby to the Dolphins, who happen to be in need of a starting cornerback.

Giants

Giants HC Pat Shurmur told reporters that rookie RB Saquon Barkley should be fine after he was seen with a wrap around his left leg during Monday’s practice.

“Think he’s all right,” Shurmur said, per Paul Schwartz. “We’ll find out.”

  • Dianna Russini reports that Barkley tweaked his hamstring at practice and a source tells her that he is fine.
  • The Giants announced that Barkley left practice early after stretching out for a long reception with his left leg was wrapped. Coach Shurmur said after Barkley had been examined: “Saquon has a mild strain, and we’ll be smart with him as we move along here.”
