NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Cowboys

  • Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked if he expects to have WR Amari Cooper at full strength Sunday night in New Orleans: “Yes. Yes. I feel very good about that. His ability to push off, his ability to do anything, I think we’re in good shape.” (Jon Machota)
  • Clarence Hill reports that Cowboys WR Michael Gallup still has swelling in his knee following arthroscopic surgery and could end up missing the next couple of weeks.
  • The Dallas Cowboys officially ruled out DE Tyrone Crawford (hip), WR Michael Gallup (knee), and DT Antwaun Woods (knee) for Week 4 and list LB Luke Gifford (ankle) as questionable.

Eagles

  • The Eagles announced Friday that CB Avonte Maddox was able to travel with the team back to Philadelphia after being stretched off towards the end of Thursday’s game: “Maddox was evaluated at the hospital last night and diagnosed with a concussion and a neck injury. Doctors determined he was safe to travel with the team to undergo further testing.
  • Nick Korte notes that the Eagles’ decision to release LB L.J. Fort on Friday will net them a 2020 fourth-round compensatory pick for one of Golden Tate or Jordan Hicks.
  • Jimmy Kempski adds that the Eagles can gain another fourth-round comp pick by releasing S Andrew Sendejo.

Giants

  • Former Giants HC Tom Coughlin said he reached out to QB Eli Manning last week following the news of his benching. (Dan Duggan)
  • Coughlin said Eli knows he has his 100 percent support and he knew Eli would handle it with class and dignity and “help the young guy just like Kurt Warner helped him.
  • The New York Giants officially ruled out RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), LB Tae Davis (concussion), and LB Alec Ogletree (hamstring) for Week 4.

Redskins

Redskins rookie QB Dwayne Haskins says he isn’t worried that he has yet to play this season.

“No, I’m happy for those guys,” Haskins said, via ESPN.com. “It’s easy to look at the rookie class and be like, ‘Rookies are playing, why am I not playing?’ I want to be like Tom Brady and Drew Brees and that’s something that doesn’t happen overnight. Tom didn’t play at first; Aaron Rodgers didn’t play at first.

Haskins did, however, say that he knows his time is coming.

“I know I can play well and play at a high level,” Haskins said. “But I want to keep getting better. I feel I can be really, really good. I want to be a great quarterback, one of those guys you talk about for years to come. That’s not going to happen overnight.

“Everyone has a different path and journey. That’s good for [the other rookies] and that’s the situation they’re in and I’m not.

  • JP Finlay reports that Redskins rookie WR Terry McLaurin should play on Sunday against the Giants, as his hamstring injury is considered a minor pull and holding him out of practice was precautionary.
  • The Washington Redskins officially ruled out TE Jordan Reed (concussion) and C Chase Roullier (knee) for Week 4 and list WR Terry McLaurin (hamstring) and G Brandon Scherff (ankle) as questionable.
