NFC North Notes: Bears, Packers, Vikings

Bears

Packers

The Packers had an interesting round one under new GM Brian Gutekunst in which they trade down from No. 14 to No. 27 overall only to move back up to CB Jaire Alexander at No. 18.

In the process, the Packers picked up a 2019 first-round pick as part of the move.

“It was too good to pass up,” Gutekunst said, via Packers.com. “Those first-round picks don’t come around too often.”

Gutekunst added that it wouldn’t be surprising to see them make more trades in the final two days of the draft.

“The way our board looks right now, I would assume we would move around a little bit,” Gutekunst said. “We have a lot of picks.”

Vikings

Vikings GM Rick Spielman said that they spent a lot of time with UCF CB Mike Hughes during the pre-draft process and are “very confident” about adding him to their team, despite the sexual assault allegation that led to him leaving North Carolina back in 2015.

“We spent a lot of time with a lot of people that had him in their football programs,” Spielman said, via the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “We spent a lot of time with people outside of football programs. After our extensive research, no question, we felt very confident with him coming in and being a Minnesota Viking.”
