NFC Notes: 49ers, Bears, Panthers

49ers

49ers GM John Lynch said the team pursued acquiring Khalil Mack from the Raiders “aggressively” but were unable to finalize a trade.

Yes, we would have been foolish not to. The guy is a spectacular player,” Lynch said, via Cam Inman of the Mercury News. “We’ve always said we’ll exhaust every option to improve our team. We went aggressively but also knowing that we had to set some parameters, and we did. Somebody else landed him. We’re excited about our team.

When asked if the 49ers are still in the market for an edge rusher, HC Kyle Shanahan said the team will “look into anything” that improves the defense.

We looked into Khalil Mack. We’ll look into anything that can improve us. If there is an edge rusher we think is better than one of our 10 guys and can come play for us, that’s what we’ll do,” said Shanahan.

Bears

Bears HC Matt Nagy said there is a “pretty good” chance that recently acquired DE Khalil Mack will play in Week 1, but the team wants to be “smart” with his workload in order to prevent an injury.

Hopefully, pretty good. We’ve got to be smart, because the last thing you want to do is throw him out there and he gets hurt and we lose him for some time. We want to be aggressive with that, but smart,” said Nagy, via Jeff Joniak.

Panthers

  • Panthers RT Daryl Williams, who suffered a torn MCL and dislocated his kneecap this summer, said he’s “taking it day by day” but added that “if I’m ready” I’d like to play vs DAL. (Bill Voth)
  • Panthers DE Marquis Haynes (back) said he feels fully recovered and is ready to play in Week 1 against the Cowboys. (Jourdan Rodrigue)
