NFC Notes: 49ers, Cardinals, Cowboys

49ers

49ers K Robbie Gould had a rough day on Saturday, missing an extra point and two field goals. San Francisco won anyway but it’s not the final impression Gould wanted to leave his bosses with a decision on his contract coming up. The 49ers have an option on Gould’s deal they have to pick up this coming Saturday. They could save a few million bucks which would be useful in a year they’re expected to need as much cap flexibility as possible but HC Kyle Shanahan didn’t make it sound like declining the option was an option.

“You’ve got to look at the body of work with Robbie and Robbie’s been unbelievable since he’s been here for us, and he’s had an unbelievable year this year,” Shanahan said via the Athletic’s Matt Barrows. “Yeah, (Saturday) was tough, and Robbie will be harder on himself than anyone. But, no, he’s played too much football in his career and he’s played too much football for us to let one game decide who he is.”

  • Barrows says the 49ers are still expected to receive a fifth-round pick for trading LB Kwon Alexander to the Saints despite his season-ending Achilles injury Friday. However, it’s based on playing time percentage and not a guarantee.

Cardinals

Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury said he hopes WR Larry Fitzgerald is back with the team 2021 and beyond, if that’s what he wants.

I want him to play three more, four more years,” Kingsbury said, via ArizonaSports.com. “I think he has that ability, but if this is the last run, then all of us as sports fans and Arizona Cardinals fans have gotten to see one of the greatest athletes of all time. What an impact he’s had on this organization and this state.

  • According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is expected to be okay and avoided a more serious injury despite being leg-whipped in Saturday’s loss to the 49ers.

Cowboys

  • Reports surfaced this weekend that Cowboys OC Kellen Moore is expected to interview for the Boise State head coaching job at some point in the near future.
  • Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy told reporters after Sunday’s game that they “think the world” of Moore: “That’s really not for me to speak on. I can only tell you that we think the world of Kellen. He’s done an incredible job here. We think the world of him.” (Jon Machota)
