NFC Notes: 49ers, Cardinals, Vikings

49ers

Matt Barrows of The Athletic takes a look at nine prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft that the 49ers could consider at No. 13 overall including:

  1. Auburn DT Derrick Brown
  2. South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw
  3. TCU DT Ross Blacklock
  4. Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb
  5. Alabama WR Jerry Jeudy
  6. Alabama WR Henry Ruggs
  7. Florida CB C.J. Henderson
  8. Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs
  9. Alabama OT Jedrick Wills

Cardinals

  • Cardinals’ recently signed LB De’Vondre Campbell‘s one-year contract includes a fully guaranteed $1 million base salary, a $5 million signing bonus, and $2.5 million through playing time and playoff escalators.
  • Adam Caplan could see Campbell sign a long-term extension with Arizona if he does well next season.

Vikings

New Vikings DT Michael Pierce says he believes he will fill the nose tackle role vacated by Linval Joseph, who was released by Minnesota earlier this week.

“With Linval leaving, I think I can pick up where he left off and continue to grow my game as well,’’ Pierce said, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press

Pierce says he’s ready to take the next step in his career with the Vikings and has already spoken with DL coach Andre Patterson.

“At this point in my career, it’s time to blossom and time to make some strides,’’ said Pierce. “(Patterson) expressed to me how he helped Linval grow his game. He was in a similar position when he signed with the team, like myself.’’

  • According to Ben Goessling, the Vikings should only incur $2.66 million in dead money after releasing OL Josh Kline instead of the $4.4 million initially being reported.
  • Goessling notes that Kline’s $1.8 million in base salary guarantees didn’t trigger until the third day of the league year.
  • As for Vikings QB Kirk Cousins‘ three-year, $96 million extension, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe notes that Cousins got a pay raise from $29.5 million to $40 million for 2020, but decreased his cap number from $31 million to $21 million.
  • Volin expects the Vikings to restructure Cousins’ contract for the 2022 season when his cap number increases $45 million.
  • John Clark of NBC Sports reports that new Eagles S Will Parks turned down more money from Vikings and Lions to play for Philadelphia.
