NFC Notes: Buccaneers, Packers, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

Buccaneers

Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston said being benched on Sunday after throwing four interceptions was a “very humbling” experience.

“It was very humbling,” Winston said, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “But it’s not about me. It’s my fault that we were in that position.

Winston added that he hasn’t been able to pinpoint why he’s thrown so many interceptions.

“I can’t find a common factor,” Winston said. “My main thing right now is finding a solution to eliminate them. I know I’m definitely the reason we came up short in this game and I own that. And I have to fix it. There’s not much that I can really say.”

  • Adam Schefter reports that the Buccaneers feared Sunday that first-round DT Vita Vea tore his ACL. However, an MRI Monday morning came back negative and Vea’s ACL is intact.
  • Ian Rapoport reports that Buccaneers second-round RB Ronald Jones suffered a hamstring strain and is expected to miss a few weeks.

Packers

  • Packers S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was asked Monday about the possibility of being traded before Tuesday’s deadline: “I’ve got about 24 hours and then we can talk.” (Rob Demovsky)
  • When asked if he’ll be talking here or somewhere else, Clinton-Dix said: “I don’t know, you guys might be surprised.”

Packers

Packers RB Ty Montgomery explained his decision to return the kickoff at the end of Sunday’s game that resulted in a fumble instead of taking a knee.

“I made a split-second decision, I don’t know if this is going to land on the goal line,” Montgomery said, via ESPN.com. “So I’m not going to take a knee on the goal line, at the half-yard line and take a chance at putting the game in the refs’ hands. Unfortunately, I ended up fumbling the football. I don’t think we’d be having this conversation if I didn’t fumble the football because we know how good our two-minute offense is. But I’ve never been a guy to completely disobey what I’m being told.”

One report from Monday included anonymous quotes from some of Montgomery’s teammates ripping him for his decision.

“It’s very frustrating that the perception in the media now is no one has my back. I’m insubordinate. I’m a cancer, whatever is out there,” Montgomery said.

There’s a lot of stuff that’s not true that’s causing me to have to deal with false accusations about my character, perceptions about my character. I’ve never been one to throw teammates under the bus. You guys know if you guys ever ask me questions about teammates, I always deflect it. I don’t like it. So it’s very disappointing especially as a guy who’s jeopardized the length of his career, the amount of money he can make in his career, in the middle of a season being asked to do multiple things all the time. That’s all I’m going to say about that.
