Commanders first-round LB Sonny Styles has been one of the highlights of Washington’s training camp so far, so much so that HC Dan Quinn has some interesting feedback for him — make more mistakes. 

Quinn explained that Styles is such a freaky athlete that he can make plays others can’t. He wants him to test his limits in practice even at the expense of missing an assignment. 

“I want to push him to make a mistake. Go for it,” Quinn said via ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. “Take the shot right here. I want to encourage him. He’s such a respectful, do-it-right [guy]. No, you can make that play and the other guys can’t. So you have permission to try it. Where are the spaces I can get to? If you can, all right. If not, we know it’s not the right call.”

Cowboys

Cowboys CB DaRon Bland is entering the fifth year of his career and is the most experienced cornerback in Dallas’ defense. Bland feels like his status as a leader “definitely came quick” but is glad to lend advice to their younger players. 

“It definitely came quick,” Bland said, via Tommy Yarish of the team’s site. “I’m only in year five, but it feels good to be known as a guy that some of the guys can come to because of all my experience.”

Dallas’ new DC Christian Parker brings experience as a defensive backs coach with the Eagles and Broncos. Bland enjoys that Parker has a background in coaching cornerbacks. 

“It’s great,” Bland said. “You get somebody that has the same mindset as you and knows what’s going to happen in the game and what you should do and wouldn’t do. It just helps you keep you on your toes.”

As for going up against WRs CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens in practice, Bland views it as a benefit to face two of the best receivers in the league. 

“They’re some of the best in the league,” Bland said. “They prepare you for each and every week, because you’re never going to see guys like that every week. I see them every day in practice. It’s going to be good.”

Giants

Giants HC John Harbaugh weighed in on the drama surrounding RB Cam Skattebo‘s failed backflip during a recent media appearance.

“The big-picture message is you want to take care of yourself, take care of your team. Do everything you can do to be healthy, be back, be right, be good,” Harbaugh said, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN. “What does that mean? It’s not going to be the same situation the next time for anybody. It’s going to be different. So it’s really the principle of it.”

“To me, it’s a very good question,” Harbaugh continued. “It’s something that … we talk about everything all the time. So those things, that, other things come up every day with ( Skattebo) and everybody else. There are a lot of guys you talk to every day. You have interactions with everyone on the team. So ( Skattebo) and I have had five or six really good conversations since he got back and that might have been talked about in there with some other stuff. It might have been. It might have been. There might be a good change. It’s part of the ongoing process. Just communication, be on the same page, trying to be the best at everything we do. He’s great. He wants to be great. He listens. He talks. He tells you what he thinks. It’s all good.”
