NFC South Notes: Falcons, Panthers, Saints

Falcons

  • Tony Pauline reports the Falcons have their eyes on Alabama State OT Tytus Howard in the second round.
  • The Falcons’ second-round pick is No. 45 overall, while Howard has gained some buzz as a potential surprise first-round pick.

Panthers

Panthers HC Ron Rivera said DB Rashaan Gaulden will get a lot of run at nickel this season.

“We have to give Rashaan every opportunity to find out if that’s a home for him,” Rivera said via Max Henson of the official team site.

Rivera adds Gaulden will play safety next to Eric Reid as well.

  • Rivera reaffirmed he’s looking to add help for RB Christian McCaffrey, ideally someone with a similar skillset: “The guy played over 90 percent of the snaps and we have to be smart about it. … I’d love to have a guy that mimics what he does so you don’t miss him when he’s not out there.” (Person)
  • Aaron Wilson reports that the Panthers hosted Alabama LB Christian Miller for a visit on Tuesday.
