NFC West Notes: 49ers, Seahawks, Brandon Marshall

49ers

49ers LB Reuben Foster returned to the team after his domestic violence charges were dropped last week.

โ€œHeโ€™s in great shape,โ€ 49ers DC Robert Saleh told reporters on Wednesday, via Pro Football Talk. โ€œHe could have [practiced] today. He could have went the first day he was allowed back. But, just like all the other guys, theyโ€™ve had a due process of Phase One, Phase Two, going through the different phases of the offseason. So, weโ€™re just giving him a chance to get back into it. Donโ€™t rush him. Thereโ€™s no need. Hopefully we can get him back to practicing soon.โ€

โ€œ[I]f he gets one snap of practice itโ€™ll be more than what he got a year ago,โ€ Saleh said. โ€œSo weโ€™re excited heโ€™s here. Weโ€™re excited that heโ€™s working. Weโ€™re excited that heโ€™s in meetings. Heโ€™s excited. The guys, his teammates are excited. Getting him up to speed wonโ€™t take as long and I promise you, when he gets out there, heโ€™s going to be like a fireball. Thatโ€™ll be cool to see.โ€

Seahawks

New Seahawks OC Brianย Schottenheimer says they’re keeping around 70 percent of their old offense, but the 30 percent being added is “noticeably different.”

โ€œIf you put a number on it Iโ€™d say itโ€™sย probably 70 percentย of what theyโ€™ve done here and then maybe 30 percent of ideas from Mike and myself and some of the new guys,โ€ Schottenheimer said, via theย Seattle Times. โ€œItโ€™d be crazy to ask some of the guys to learn a completely new system. Iโ€™ve been working extremely hard trying to get up to speed with the way theyโ€™ve done things. Theyโ€™ve had so much success here that was easy for me to do. Iโ€™m excited about some of the things that weโ€™ve added both in the run and pass game. I think thatโ€™ll be something that is noticeably different. Itโ€™s a comprehensive approach.โ€

Brandon Marshall

New Seahawks WR Brandon Marshall admitted that he didn’t have a lot of options available to him as a free agent and he understands why some feel he could be done as a player.

“I didn’t have a ton of options,” Marshall said, via ESPN.com. “I think the sentiment around the league is that I’m done, and I get it. Rightfully so. When you get on the other side of 30 and your production slips and you have a big injury, people just count you out. So it was an interesting process. It was a humbling process, to say the least. There were some really tough days that I had to push through, mentally and physically, so for this to be an opportunity and come to [fruition], you can’t ask for a better situation. You’ve got probably a top-three quarterback, you’ve got one the best franchises, you’ve got a young nucleus, guys that are hungry and ready to compete.

  • Marshall said he originally intended to put the toe surgery off until he was retired, but ankle surgery offered enough rehab time to also recover from the toe procedure.
  • Regarding his ankle injury, Marshall said that he began running pain-free prior to the Giants releasing him with a failed physical designation and hopes to be fully recovered by training camp:ย “I feel good. I don’t feel great.” (Brady Henderson)
