NFL Expected To Investigate Ezekiel Elliott For Las Vegas Incident

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports that the NFL is likely to review the incident involving Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott and a security guard in Las Vegas to determine if there was a violation of league policy.

Elliott was briefly handcuffed and detained at a Las Vegas concert before being released.

Robinson says that the Cowboys and sources close to Elliott do not believe the language of his previous suspension determination supports discipline in light of the video footage.

However, a source in the NFL’s executive branch tells Robinson that the Vegas incident is “clearly” subject to review by commissioner Roger Goodell under the league’s personal conduct policy.

According to Robinson, the question from Goodell standpoint will be to determine whether there was “actual or threatened physical violence against another person” in the Las Vegas video.

As for when there could be a determination from Goodell, Robinson’s source says the NFL would “likely” review the incident prior to training camp.

The Cowboys have been supportive of Elliott and have mentioned that the incident won’t have any impact on his standing with the team.

Elliott, 23, was taken with the No. 4 overall pick by the Cowboys back in 2016. He signed four-year contract worth $24,956,342, which includes a signing bonus of $16,350,068.

Elliott will make a base salary of $3.85 million for the 2019 season and another $9.1 million in 2020 under the fifth-year option of his contract.

In 2018, Elliott appeared in 15 games for the Cowboys and rushed for 1,434 yards on 304 carries (4.7 YPC) to go along with 77 receptions for 567 yards receiving and nine touchdowns.
