Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that while there have been increasing public calls for the playoffs to be reseeded, the NFL hasn’t seriously discussed the matter internally.
A source with knowledge of the NFL’s thinking tells Schefter that playoff reseeding has come up but “it has gotten zero steam. It’s never been a consideration.”
The NFC East winner could end up with a .500-or-worse record and host a playoff game against a team with 10 or more wins.
Even so, Schefter says the NFL doesn’t believe there’s reason to change the seeding format for future postseasons, either.
The expectation has been that the NFL will push to expand the number of playoffs teams in the ongoing CBA negotiations, but it sounds like playoff reseeding is off the table for the foreseeable future.
