NFL Notes: 49ers, Seahawks, Texans

49ers

49ers president Al Guido tells Bloomberg that first-round DE Nick Bosa’s social media comments weren’t something they considered an issue when it came to drafting him.

“Not at all,” Guido said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “It doesn’t mean we didn’t do background on the kid, doesn’t mean we didn’t bring it up and ask him the question, but look — if we’re going to get in a world where we’re not drafting Republicans or not drafting Democrats. . . . The way that I think about it is, ‘he’s a young kid, he had a perspective.’ That perspective is fine, some of other stuff he did I think was a little insensitive and needs to learn from.”

“Honestly, I spent no time worrying about it, I know John Lynch spent no time worrying about it, we worry about the kid himself, not necessarily his political leanings,” Guido added.

Seahawks

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said first-round DL L.J. Collier will play in former DL Michael Bennett‘s old role, which was to play defensive end in their base set and move inside on passing downs.

He’ll play the spot where Michael Bennett played, and we’ll ask him to do a lot of similar things and in time, you know, we’ll see what that means,’’ Carroll said, via Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “But that’s where we’re starting anyway.’’

Collier believes Bennett is a “great comparison” for him.

I think that’s a great comparison (to Bennett) because he can play outside and he can play in,’’ Collier said. “He’s a tough, hard-nosed guy. He loves to hit people. I like his style of play and his flexibility of going in and out. Obviously I can do that, too. That’s where I see the comparison.’’
