NFL Notes: Aldon Smith, Evan Mathis, Bills, Cardinals, & Texans

Aldon Smith

  • Pro Football Talk points out that Aldon Smith latest arrest involves both substance-abuse policy and Personal Conduct Policy, which could lead to “significant” suspension.
  • Jason Fitzgerald mentions that Smith won’t be subject to waivers.

Evan Mathis

Alex Marvez of FOX Sports tells 560 WQAM that he believes the Dolphins are “slow-playing” free agent G Evan Mathis, and it’s a smart move overall.

“Well I think you just keep letting this play out,” Fox Sports’ Alex Marvez said on the Joe Rose Show Friday, via CBS Miami.I mean why not? Evan Mathis isn’t going anywhere right now. No one has met his contract number. So there’s no harm no foul here for me from a Dolphins standpoint.

“Let’s see what these guys can get done. Let’s see what can happen with these guys in a preseason game or two… I think the Dolphins slow-playing it is smart. I mean why overpay when you may not need to?

Bills

  • Bills HC Rex Ryan ruled out the possibility of signing free agent RB Ray Rice on Friday during an interview with Pro Football Talk.
  • Ryan explained that they aren’t in the market for a running back given that they’re loaded at the tailback position.

Cardinals

  • Cardinals HC Bruce Arians told reporters that WR Michael Floyd‘s hand injury is “unique” and there’s currently no timetable for his return. (Josh Weinfuss)

Texans

  • According to Jason La Canfora, there’s at least a chance that RB Arian Foster could be back in less than three months after undergoing groin surgery on Friday.
