NFL Notes: Cardinals, Seahawks, Texans

Cardinals

Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury said he has been “impressed” with QB Josh Rosen‘s ability to learn their system and praised his execution during Tuesday’s practice.

Yeah, I think Josh has done everything humanly possible to show what type of quarterback he is, what type of competitor he is,” Kingsbury said, via Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic. “I’ve said it all along, I couldn’t be more impressed with his approach. He’s a great player. I mean, he was a top-10 pick for a reason. You see it out there how cerebral he is, how quickly he’s picked up our system. I was really impressed with his execution [Tuesday].

Kingsbury continued to credit Rosen’s arm strength, accuracy, and ability to throw from “a bunch of different planes,” while reiterating that he was a top-10 pick last year.

As a player, the physical traits. Tremendous arm talent. Very accurate. Can throw from a bunch of different planes. Great touch. Cerebral. He went Top 10 for a reason and I think people forgot that,” said Kingsbury.

  • NFL Media’ Lance Zierlein believes the Cardinals will take Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray
  • Zierlein says the “chirping” to the contrary is believed to be the Cardinals trying to drum up trade interest for the pick or for QB Josh Rosen
  • Arizona State WR N’Keal Harry believes the Cardinals will take him at No. 33 overall if available: “I can’t really say too much but just from the workout I had [with Arizona] … I really turned some heads in the organization. So, if for some reason I slip out the first round, in my opinion, I don’t think there’s any way I’ll slip past 33.” (Burns and Gambo)

Seahawks

  • The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta has the Seahawks taking Mississippi State DE Montez Sweat and Ole Miss WR A.J. Brown with their two first-round picks.
  • Condotta believes Sweat could fall to the Seahawks because of concerns about an enlarged heart revealed during Combine medical checks.
  • Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports that the Seahawks were not sure that DE Frank Clark would have accepted the contract he received from the Kansas City with them.
  • Condotta writes that Clark “seemed ready” to play on the franchise tag but not signing the tag or reporting to camp until September.

Texans

Texans GM Brian Gaine said there are “varying” options available to draft an offensive lineman in the 2019 NFL Draft and believes there are “contributing-level” players available during the mid-rounds.

“I think there’s (varying) portions in this draft at tackle where you could get a starting-caliber player, both in day one or day two,” Gaine said, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “I think there’s some contributing-level players there in the mid rounds where they could be versatile swing players for you. There’s some players at various portions in this draft at tackle where you see some flexibility to go play guard.”

  • NFL Media’ Lance Zierlein says the Texans won’t trade up in the first round despite rumors they might try to move up for an offensive lineman.
  • Zierlein writes that while the Texans have an extra second-round pick, they have too many needs to burn one in a trade.
