NFL Notes: Cliff Avril, Coby Fleener, Seahawks

Cliff Avril

Former Seahawks DE Cliff Avril announced Monday that he’s joining 950 KJR-AM to cover Seattle sports.

“I’m excited to join the KJR team!” Avril said. “Seattle is home and I can’t wait to cover the best sports city in the world.

The Seahawks officially released him last week after it became clear that he was likely to resume his NFL career due to a serious neck injury he suffered last year.

Coby Fleener

  • On Monday, the Saints made the decision to designate veteran TE Coby Fleener as a post-June 1 release. (NFLTR)
  • Ian Rapoport reports that Fleener was in the Saints’ building every day before his release, still receiving treatment from the final concussion he suffered last year.
  • According to Rapoport, Fleener still wants to continue his career once he’s fully healthy.

Seahawks

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said that seventh-round QB Alex McGough was “the surprise” of rookie minicamp.

“Probably the surprise of the day was Alex,” Carroll said, via KREM.com. “I thought Alex did a very nice job. He showed really good arm strength. We know that he’s very mobile. He showed a lot of mobility out of him – he got chased a lot last year on film so we know that he can move around and make things happen.”
