NFL Notes: Nick Mangold, May 16 Rule, Bills, Buccaneers

Nick Mangold

Free agent C Nick Mangold mentioned during an appearance on SNYโ€™s โ€œJet Streamโ€ podcast that he isnโ€™t sure if heโ€™ll return to the NFL.

โ€œMaybe thereโ€™s more to (my career), maybe there isnโ€™t,โ€ Mangold said, per Rich Cimini.

According to Mangold, his foot injury still hasnโ€™t healed and he didnโ€™t want to โ€œsteal checksโ€ this season y signing with a team before heโ€™s healthy.

May 16 Rule

  • Tom Pelissero reports that the NFL and the American Football Coaches Association are working toward a deal to change the May 16 Rule, which is a policy that prevents rookies from participating in football activities if their schools are still in session.

Bills

  • According to Howard Balzer, the Bills worked out RB Jalen Simmons, RB Brandon Wilds and S Shamarko Thomas on Tuesday.
  • Of this group, Buffalo signed Thomas to a contract. (NFLTR)

Buccaneers

Buccaneers RB Doug Martin said he is unsure how many snaps he will receive in Week 5, but added that he is ready to contribute in whatever way he can.

โ€œIโ€™m gonna go out there and just do the best that I can do, be as ready as I can be, just play for these guys,โ€ Martin said, via Jenna Laine of ESPN. โ€œIโ€™m not sure [how many snaps]. Iโ€™m just going to go out there and play to the best of my ability. Whatever that is, itโ€™s Coach [Dirk Koetterโ€™s] decision, itโ€™s what he decides to do. Iโ€™m for it.โ€œ
