NFL Rumors: Jets Focusing On WR Not Cromartie?

Last week there were reports that the Jets were willing to let CB Antonio Cromartie leave while they focused on their free agent wide receivers, e.g. Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards. That report was later contested by Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Yesterday, Eli Kaberon of Pro Football Weekly reported that the Jets will allow Cromartie to seek offers from teams which will allow them to work on new deals for Holmes and Edwards. Kaberon mentions that the hope is that Cromartie will still being willing to return to the Jets despite not being one of their top-five offseason priorities.

Cromartie doesn’t appear to be willing to leave any money on the table which would make the likelihood that he’ll return to New York for a reasonable price slim to none. I can’t blame the Jets for making it a priority to surround Mark Sanchez with the solid offensive players because their success will have more to do with their offenses ability to point on the board than their defenses performance.
