No Progress Between The Bills And Their Top Free Agents

Bills president Russ Brandon told The Buffalo News on Friday that they haven’t discussed long-term extensions for either G Andy Levitre or FS Jairus Byrd.

Both players will be unrestricted free agents in March and represent two of the best available options in this year’s free agent class.

“The timeline is we need to sit down as a group personnel-wise and put our game plan together on how we’re going to approach things,” Brandon said. “As far as talks are concerned, there’s nothing at this point that’s concrete. We would love to have both guys back.”

New Bills head coach Doug Marrone and his staff are still assessing the team’s roster, so it could be a few weeks before we have a better idea of what their plans are for Levitre and Byrd.

Buffalo could always elect to franchise Byrd for a reasonable $6.8 million next year. The Bills have already re-signed Kraig Urbik to a four-year, $15 million contract extension, so it will be interesting to see what they do with Levitre.

We have Byrd (No. 3) and Levitre (No. 14) both listed in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
