Panathers Worked Out Veteran TE James Casey

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that the Panthers are working out veteran TE/FB James Casey on Tuesday.

  • Aaron Wilson reports that QB Bryn Renner is also in Carolina for a workout today.
  • The Panthers are also WR Douglas McNeil, according to Garafolo.

Casey, 31, is a former fifth round pick of the Texans back in 2009. He spent four years in Houston before he signed a three-year contract with the Eagles as an unrestricted free agent in March of 2013.

The Broncos would later sign Casey to a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Broncos back in April shortly after he was released by the Eagles.

However, Denver elected wound up releasing Casey a few weeks ago to make room for DE Derek Wolfe, who was activated from the exempt list.

This season, Casey has been active for three of the team’s four games, but has yet to record a single statistic. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing just 19 snaps this season.
