Panthers Officially Place LB Luke Kuechly On Reserve/Retired List

According to Ian Rapoport, the Panthers have officially placed LB Luke Kuechly on the reserve/retired list.

This makes Kuechly’s retirement from football official even though he announced it some time ago.

Carolina waited until now to help process the cap hit from his retirement as a June 1 release, spreading it over two years.

Over The Cap’s Jason Fitzgerald writes the Panthers should pick up $10.8 million in cap savings when LB Luke Kuechly‘s retirement is processed after June 2.

Kuechly has left open the possibility of taking some kind of off-field role with Carolina, either as an advisor or coach. He’s also mulled opportunities in TV

Kuechly, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Panthers back in 2012. He was entering the fifth year of his six-year, $64.105 million contract and set to make a base salary of $10.3 million for the 2019 season.

For his career, Kuechly recorded 1,093 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 18 interceptions, seven forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries, two defensive touchdowns and 67 passes defended. Kuechly was a seven-time Pro Bowler and a five-time first-team All-Pro.
