Panthers Place DT Kawann Short On IR, Promote DL Bryan Cox

The Panthers announced on Tuesday they have placed DT Kawann Short on injured reserve with a partially torn rotator cuff. He’ll undergo surgery and be out for the rest of the season.

โ€œKK has done everything he could possibly do to try to play these past two games,โ€ Panthers GM Marty Hurney said, โ€œbut we have made the decision that it is in the best long-term interest of KK and the team that he undergo surgery to fix his shoulder and focus on his rehab and get ready for next season.โ€

In a corresponding move, the team has promoted DL Bryan Cox to the active roster.

Short, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Panthers back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $4.630 million rookie contract before agreeing to a five-year, $80 million contract with the Panthers in 2017.

Short stands to make a base salary of $12.5 million for the 2019 season.

In 2019, Short appeared in two games for the Panthers and recorded four total tackles.
