The Panthers announced on Tuesday they have placed DT Kawann Short on injured reserve with a partially torn rotator cuff. He’ll undergo surgery and be out for the rest of the season.
โKK has done everything he could possibly do to try to play these past two games,โ Panthers GM Marty Hurney said, โbut we have made the decision that it is in the best long-term interest of KK and the team that he undergo surgery to fix his shoulder and focus on his rehab and get ready for next season.โ
In a corresponding move, the team has promoted DL Bryan Cox to the active roster.
Short, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Panthers back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $4.630 million rookie contract before agreeing to a five-year, $80 million contract with the Panthers in 2017.
Short stands to make a base salary of $12.5 million for the 2019 season.
In 2019, Short appeared in two games for the Panthers and recorded four total tackles.
