Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart Could Begin The Season On The PUP List

The Carolina Panthers have already ruled out RB Jonathan Stewart for their Week 3 preseason match up against the Ravens.

HC Ron Rivera mentioned that Stewart is a candidate to be placed on the team’s reserve/PUP list.

“At this point anything is an option,” said Rivera, via the Associated Press. “What you’re hoping is you can get him on the football field and we’ll see once the doctor gets a chance to look at him.”

Stewart, 26, has yet to participate in the team’s training camp practices beyond simple activities, due to offseason surgery on his ankles. There was some optimism that he could be available for Week 1, but it now appears as though DeAngelo Williams, Mike Tolbert and rookie Kenjon Barner are likely to handle the Panthers rushing attack to start the season.
