Panthers To Retain Ron Rivera As Head Coach

NFL insider Adam Schefter reports that Ron Rivera will return to the Carolina Panthers next season for his third year as the team’s head coach.

Rivera met with team owner Jerry Richardson  on Saturday for a face-to-face talk to determine whether or not Rivera would remain with the team. The season started out catastrophically for the Panthers who were 1-6 after 7 games before finishing the year with a 6-3 record.

Rivera’s record as a head coach stands at 13-19 after two seasons. He currently has two years remaining on his original $11 million deal and now appears to be getting one last shot with the team.

The Panthers will begin their search for a new GM on Monday. No official word yet on the future of River’s assistants OC Rob Chudzinski and DC Sean McDermott, however it is expected that Chudzinski will be retained.
