Patriots A Potential Landing Spot For WR Mike Wallace?

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com writes that the Patriots could target a “big receiver on the outside” during free agency now that they’ve freed up some extra cap room by restructuring Tom Brady‘s contract.

Rapoport specifically mentions that wide receivers Dwayne Bowe and Mike Wallace could both be in consideration. Rapoport adds that Bill Belichick has offered consistent praise for Wallace in the past.

Bowe is a candidate for the Chiefs franchise tag, so there’s no guarantee he would be available. Wallace figures to command a huge contract on the open market, so it’s hard to imagine that New England would be able to meet his contract requirements and still retain free agents like Wes Welker, Sebastian Vollmer and Aqib Talib.

There’s also talk that Brandon Lloyd isn’t going to be back next season, so it will be interesting to see what they elect to do at the receiver position in the next few weeks.

We have Wallace listed as the No. 4 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents List.
