Patriots Designate RB Rex Burkhead To Return From Injured Reserve

The New England Patriots officially designated RB Rex Burkhead to return from injured reserve on Thursday, according to Ben Volin.

This officially opens a three-week window of time for the Patriots to add him to their active roster or he would revert back to injured reserve.

The Patriots placed Burkhead on injured reserve back in September with a neck injury.

Burkhead, 28, is a former sixth-round pick of the Bengals back in 2013. He played out his four-year, $2,262,200 contract with the Bengals and signed on with the Patriots to a one-year deal last offseason.

The Patriots brought Burkhead back on a three-year, $9.75 million contract this past March.

In 2018, Burkhead appeared in three games for the Patriots and rushed for 86 yards on 24 carries (3.6 YPC) to go along with three receptions for 31 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
