Patriots Have No Plans To Release CB Alfonzo Dennard

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports that a league source has informed him that the Patriots do not intend to release CB Alfonzo Dennard, despite his recent arrest under suspicion of DUI.

Dennard previously earned a deferred 30-day jail sentence for assaulting a police officer right before last year’s NFL draft.

Volin adds that the Pats expect the league to suspend Dennard for violating the player conduct policy. An NFL spokesman mentioned that Dennard’s case is currently “under review.”

It’s worth noting that Dennard has refuted the facts regarding his DUI arrest. He is claiming he blew into a breathalyzer twice and registered below the legal limit, and also managed to pass a field sobriety test.

Dennard, 23, is still under contract for another three years at very reasonable salaries, so it makes for New England to see how things play out. Especially when you consider that he is slotted into their starting cornerback spot across from Aqib Talib.
