Aldon Smith Checks Into Rehab Following Domestic Violence Incident Involving Fiancee

Update:

TMZ Sports reports that Aldon Smith has checked himself into rehab after the victim’s parents convinced him to get help.

This comes after Smith was involved in a domestic violence incident Saturday night involving his fiancee.

“I can tell you this … Aldon called my parents and asked them to take him to rehab,” Smith’s fiancee tells TMZ. “He complied. They went and got him. I was not there. My family took him and had him checked in.”

“I wish the BEST for Aldon. And I’m scared for his life with his addiction. I cannot comment on the altercation but I can tell you I love him and so happy he turned to my family who considers him family and hopefully he gets the help he truly needs.”

According to Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area, San Francisco Police are searching for former Raiders and 49ers OLB Aldon Smith following a domestic violence incident that occurred Saturday evening.

The report says that police responded to an alleged altercation and found a victim, who had suffered non-life threatening injuries. Bair says that the suspect fled the scene before police arrived on the scene, but Smith has been identified as the suspect in this case.

San Francisco Police Special Victims Unit would like to interview Smith regarding the domestic violence incident and are encouraging people with information about his whereabouts to contact the police department.

Smith hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2015 season and is currently suspended indefinitely. He had been trying to get reinstated by the league, but wound up sitting out the entire 2017 season.

Last March, Smith was detained by police after he was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed into a police car before later being released.

Before that, a Periscope video surfaced that appeared to show him a hand-rolled cigarette violated the protocols required for a suspended player to be reinstated. Smith later entered a rehab facility soon after the video surfaced and spent 120 days in the center.

Smith officially applied for a return to the NFL on October 3 of 2016, which appeared to open a 60-day window for Goodell to render a decision. However, the NFL later announced that there was no timetable for them to rule on Smith’s reinstatement.

Smith, 28, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He was cut loose by the 49ers shortly after a DUI incident in 2015, even though San Francisco picked up his fifth-year option.

Smith later signed a one-year deal with the Raiders that was worth up to $8 million, which was largely incentive-based. Oakland elected to re-sign Smith to a two-year, $11.5 million contract in 2016.

In 2015, Smith recorded 28 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, and three pass defenses over the course of nine games.

We’ll have more regarding this situation as the news is available.
