While Whitworth is not currently under contract for 2020, Rapoport says he’s the best option for the Rams at left tackle next season and the two sides expect to work out a deal without incident.
The veteran is also reportedly feeling good after having surgery to clean out his ankle.
Whitworth, 38, is a former second-round pick of the Bengals back in 2006. He spent 11 years in Cincinnati before signing a three-year, $33.75 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed with the Rams in 2017.
Whitworth made a base salary of $10.25 million for the 2019 season. He is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In 2019, Whitworth started all 16 games for the Rams. He was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 28 offensive tackle out of 81 qualifying players.
