Rams Rookie OLB Obo Okoronkwo Likely To Open Season On PUP List

Rams HC Sean McVay told reporters on Monday (per Myles Simmons) that it’s unlikely rookie OLB Obo Okoronkwo (foot) will be activated from the active/PUP prior to the start of the regular season.

This means that the Okoronkwo will likely move to the reserve/PUP list, which would cost him the first six games of the 2018 season.

Okoronkwo underwent foot surgery a few weeks after the draft.

Okoronkwo, 23, was taken with the No. 160 overall pick in the fifth-round of this year’s draft by the Rams. Los Angeles actually traded up with the Broncos and sent two sixth-round picks to Denver as part of the deal to select Okoronkwo.

Okoronkwo signed a four-year contract with the Rams worth $2,734,536 and includes a base salary of $480,000 for the 2018 season.

During his four-year college career at Oklahoma, Okoronkwo recorded 162 tackles, 33 tackles for a loss, 20 sacks, five forced fumbles, two recoveries and five pass defenses over the course of 35 games.
