Ravens Trade For Colts C A.Q. Shipley

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the Ravens have acquired C A.Q. Shipley from the Colts in return for a conditional 2014 draft pick.

Ravens long-time center Matt Birk retired after their recent Super Bowl win, so they’ll need to find someone who’s capable of solidifying the position for the coming years. Before this trade, 2012 fourth-round pick Gino Gradkowski was the favorite to take over as the starting center.

Shipley played 476 snaps for the Colts last season and was rated as the No. 15 best center in the league, according to Pro Football Focus. Shipley actually comes in ahead of Birk in terms of PFF rating, so it appears as though he’ll have a shot at winning the starting center job during training camp.
