Redskins Claim C J.D. Walton Off Waivers From The Broncos

Mike Klis reports that the Washington Redskins have claimed C J.D. Walton off of waivers from the Denver Broncos.

Denver released Walton on Tuesday, which was a bit of a surprising move given that they once saw him as a long-term option at center. That was of course before he suffered a broken ankle back in 2012 and would later have a setback this summer.

Since then, the Broncos signed C Manny Ramirez to a two-year extension that will keep him under team control through the 2015 season. Ramirez, 30, currently grades out as the No. 2 center in the league, according to Pro Football Focus, so you can see why the Broncos were willing to part ways with Walton.

Washington currently has Will Montgomery in place as their starting center (currently ranked as the No. 13 center, per PFF) , but Walton could be someone they look to develop next year.
