Ian Rapoport reports that the 49ers are expected to release CB Nnamdi Asomugha Monday.
- Rapoport adds that CB Eric Wright is expected to be activated and take Asomugha’s roster spot.
- San Francisco is expected activate WR Mario Manningham as well, according to Rapoport .
A report from a little over a week ago suggested that Asomugha was on the chopping block now that he has relegated to being the team’s No. 5 corner and has been a healthy scratch multiple times this season.
Asomugha’s decline continues as he goes from being one of the best defensive backs in the league just a few years ago, to a liability as a player. At this point in his career, it’s hard to say if Asomugha would get another shot in the league after what was a horrible go of things in Philadelphia and then being marginalized in San Francisco.
It’s worth noting that the Saints did show a lot of interest in him during the offseason, but they may not be in the market for a corner at this point in time.
