Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports reports that Buccaneers G Logan Mankins sustained a hyperextended knee during Sunday’s loss to the Panthers.
- Getlin adds that the team doesn’t think the injury is all that serious.
Mankins looked to have tweaked his knee after he planted his foot while blocking a defender. The injury appeared as though it could be serious, but it sounds like he and the Buccaneers got lucky with this situation.
Mankins came over in a trade with the Patriots just a few weeks ago that sent TE Tim Wright and a draft pick to New England.
Tampa Bay had been looking to upgrade their interior offensive line depth, which included bringing in free agent G Richie Incognito for a workout.
Mankins, 32, is entering the fourth year of his six-year, $51 million contract that included $30 million guaranteed. He has a base salary of $6.25 million for the upcoming season and will make $6.75 million in 2015 and 2016.
Last year, Mankins rated as the No. 18 guard in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.
