Report: Falcons & Julio Jones Closing In On 4- Or 5-Year Extension Worth $20M Per Year

According to Mike Freeman of B/R, the Falcons and WR Julio Jones are closing in on an extension that would pay him $20 million per year over four or five years.

Freeman says Jones could secure between $50-$60 million new guarantees as part of the deal.

Although, Freeman says a deal isn’t done and contracts talks are likely to remain fluid. Even so, Freeman adds that indications are that the two sides seem to be nearing an agreement to keep Jones in Atlanta for the foreseeable future.

Jones’ contract situation has been one of the most pressing issues for the Falcons this offseason, as he’s looking for a raise that would put him more in line with the top-of-the-market salaries being paid to other receivers around the league.

The Falcons adjusted Jones’ contract last year to pay him an additional $2.9 million in 2018 and included a $4.4 million signing bonus.

Jones, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Falcons back in 2011. He’s currently in the fifth year of his six-year, $81.432 million contract that includes $47 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $12.5 million for the 2018 season.

In 2018, Jones appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons and caught 113 passes for 1,677 yards receiving and eight touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding the Falcons and Jones as the news is available.
