According to Jason La Canfora, the Jaguars turned down an offer of two first-round picks from one team for CB Jalen Ramsey.
While two first-round picks had been the team’s asking price for Ramsey, La Canfora reports Jacksonville felt those two picks would be too close to the end of the round. The Jaguars now hope to keep Ramsey.
However, Ramsey has continued to tell associates he won’t sign a long-term deal in Jacksonville, per La Canfora. Despite missing practice this week, Ramsey traveled with the team to Denver and is considered questionable for Week 4. Josina Anderson reports Ramsey will “listen to his body” and could play depending on how he feels.
La Canfora talked to sources around the league who expect Ramsey to continue to rock the boat now that a trade has been broached even if owner Shad Khan has resolved to stand firm and not “reward” Ramsey with a trade.
“You have to trade him,” said a high-ranking official from another club. “It will get worse and there will be something new with him every week. He doesn’t see a future there (in Jacksonville), and he’s already shown he’s willing to rock the boat to get out. At some point it becomes more trouble than it’s worth.”
While there has been some recent buzz about the Jaguars hoping to keep Ramsey and sign him to an extension, La Canfora previously reported there’s a “strong sense” around the NFL that an extension there is not in the cards.
The Chiefs are considered the “favorites“ to eventually trade for Ramsey if a deal goes down, with the Eagles, Seahawks and Ravens are other teams monitoring the situation.
Ramsey, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He signed a four-year, $23.35 million contract and is set to make a base salary of $3.63 million in 2019.
The Jaguars picked up Ramsey’ fifth-year option that will cost them around $13 million for the 2020 season and will become fully guaranteed on the first day of 2020 league year.
In 2019, Ramsey has appeared in three games for the Jaguars and recorded 18 tackles, a forced fumble and one pass defense.
We’ll have more regarding Ramsey as the news is available.
